SURI PARMAR (she/they) is a Toronto-based writer, filmmaker, and professor who graduated from the Canadian Film Centre’s Writers’ Lab and Short Dramatic Film program and the Stonecoast MFA Program in Creative Writing. She has been selected for numerous international artist residencies that include Reykjavรญk International Film Festival’s Talent Lab and Esperimento Sul Respiro in Como, Italy. Since 2018, she has taught screenwriting, film production and creative writing at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

As a studio producer and coordinator, she has worked with high-profile brands such as In The Know by Yahoo, Yahoo Life and Yahoo Entertainment, Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU), the Hetrick-Martin Institute, and New York Fashion Week. Her award-winning film work includes shorts and a feature she co-wrote that have screened at film festivals around the world, including Calgary International Film Festival, Hawaii International Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Her genre fiction has been published by Air and Nothingness Press and has appeared in New Haven Review and The Spectacle.

Among Suri’s major creative influences, she includes Angela Carter, Kelly Link, The Wachowskis, Herb Ritts, and Patrick Nagel. Through her storytelling, she parses the human condition in all its messiness and depravity, often using genre as allegory.
